Second Saturday

Welcome to the Arts side of the Capitol Hill neighborhood - where a picture is worth a thousand words, and the pen is mightier than the sword.  One of the most unique neighborhoods in the city, the Hill is home to many artists, musicians, writers, arts organizations and eclectic shops and fun happenings. Our galleries, bookshops, arts & crafts, clothing boutiques, theaters, museums, historic homes, cafes and pubs offer the casual, the infrequent, the curious, the first-time and the regular Hill wanderer/shopper a delightful array of goods, services and entertainment.

The Hill is also home to Eastern Market, the oldest continuously operating farmers' market in the city where, besides finding fresh produce, meat & fish, baked goods and flowers, you will also discover a vibrant flea market (at the Market and across from the Market) offering antiques, furniture, glassware, prints, jewelry and collectibles and lots more. Union Station, the Hill's other shopping treasure, is full of wonderful shops, restaurants and exhibits for the entire family and out-of-town guests.

Every Second Saturday of the month various Galleries, Bookstores, Shops and Cafes and more have something special to offer - an art opening, refreshments, discounts, music, recitals, etc.  Times and events vary each month, so be sure to check each month for the listing of participants on the Event Calendar.

How Businesses Can Participate:

CHAMPS Members are encouraged to take part in 2nd Saturday events to help create some monthly synergy on the Hill. 

Some ideas include: host an art show, have live music or poetry reading or a lecture, offer a discount, offer wine and cheese, do something unusual, plan your performance on a 2nd Saturday, double-up with your neighboring shop or caf to do something fun.  It's just once a month, and each participant can decide on its own “2nd Saturday special” and available hours.
